Well I used to think so, until I became a broker and saw how some others in the industry worked.

To explain this, you should be aware that there are 2 main models in the business broking industry.
Business Broker Model 1:
Low fees, high volume of clients, low success rates in selling.
In this model, brokers usually take on any clients and usually don’t even do proper valuation appraisals, because their goal is to list as many businesses as possible and hope that some sell.
But most don’t, which leave a trail of disgruntled clients and noone is happy
Some even make money from monthly marketing fees which incentivises the broker to not sell, and keep 50 or more businesses listed
In this model when a buyer lead comes in and asks about a business, the broker has too many businesses listed to know their listings in depth, so takes a long time to get back to buyers and can get details wrong, both of which cause buyers to look elsewhere.
Business Broker Model 2:
Higher fees, lower volume of clients, high success rate in selling.
In this model, which is our model, we have fewer listings, and know each business in depth, so when a buyer comes through, we know the business back to front and can respond to the leads with the information they want to know quicker and get deals done at a higher success rate.
